The increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) is putting significant pressure on global water resources, with data centres consuming far more water than previously estimated. A study by the University of California, Riverside, found that using AI models like ChatGPT requires four times the water initially thought: about two litres for 10 to 50 queries.
