The AI data centre boom promises jobs and innovation, but raises major environmental concerns. These facilities consume huge amounts of electricity and potable water to cool servers, with some using tens of thousands of litres daily.

 

Despite rapid expansion by the tech giants, Canada has little regulation or transparency around water use, with some sites lacking meters entirely.

 

Prioritizing economic gains over sustainability is the name of the game here.
