CARBONOCEAN (2022)
KYE GO
 OFF SHORE  exhibition

Ocean acidification, a growing environmental concern, is caused by the excess carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) released by industries into the atmosphere. As COâ‚‚ accumulates, it dissolves in seawater, forming carbonic acid. This acidification process lowers the pH of the ocean, making it more acidic and disrupting marine ecosystems.

The impact on marine life is profound. Species like corals, shellfish, and plankton, which rely on calcium carbonate to build their shells and skeletons, are particularly vulnerable. As ocean acidity increases, their ability to form these structures diminishes, threatening biodiversity and the entire marine food web.

Industries, particularly those in fossil fuel extraction and manufacturing, are major contributors to the problem.
